Israel continues to occupy more than 60 percent of the Gaza Strip while the territory remains largely devastated after years of war.
More than 100,000 Palestinians who fled Gaza remain abroad, while only a fraction have been able to return. Reconstruction has made limited progress, and continuing Israeli strikes and instability are preventing many families from rebuilding their lives.
For Palestinians, the continuing military occupation means that the formal existence of a ceasefire has not produced a return to normal civilian life. Large-scale destruction, restricted movement and continuing insecurity remain central features of daily life in Gaza.
